One of our highest priorities during the high school years is continuing our children's faith formation. We use the Formed In Christ series found at TAN Books because it provides solid Catholic teaching, meaningful discussions, and opportunities for students to deepen their relationship with Christ.

The Formed In Christ series implements the religion courses mandated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) for Catholic high school students. It consists of six core semester courses and two elective semester courses. We do the electives senior year, one being vocations.

Why We Like It

There are many reasons we've chosen to use this series in our high school homeschool. I find the series to be extremely faithful to Catholic teaching. I know my children aren't getting conflicting information in these courses. The material is age-appropriate for teens. I was concerned especially in the book on moral theology on how certain topics would be presented, but I had no cause for worry because it's done well for teenagers.

My oldest enjoyed using the WriteShop I & II programs early in his high school years. After that I included writing into the other courses I created for him, such as art history, as he decided to major in art in college.

But he struggled with the Geometry version of the same curriculum. So halfway through the year we tried Teaching Textbooks Geometry, which he found a little more helpful. While my oldest was mostly independent in his high school math, I've worked more closely with my second son with math.

Why We Like Them

These resources are quite different, but each one met my students' individual needs. They included clear instruction and guided help when they struggled with concepts.
