1. Instructor’s Guide
I’m a planner and I really like when I purchase curriculum that includes lesson plans. It makes planning our homeschool year so much easier! The Instructor’s Guide that comes with the Sonlight Science K program makes planning for kindergarten science quick and simple.
Each week is detailed in a simple, easy-to-read table. At a glance, you’ll know which book to read and what questions on the activity sheet your kids should answer each day. Plus, you’ll know which weekly experiment to do, including all the supplies you’ll need.
Not only that, but you’ll also get a list of any supplies you might need to gather for the next week’s lessons. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had an activity planned, but then ended up not able to do it because I was missing supplies. That’s not going to happen with Sonlight Science.
2. Beautiful Books
Sonlight Science includes wonderful literature as part of their curriculum. No boring textbooks here!
In the Sonlight Science K curriculum, my son and I enjoyed books about insects, the rainforest, weather, plants, force, and more. The books are fun to read and have beautiful illustrations. Since you’re only reading a couple of pages each day, your kids will have enough attention span to focus on the day’s concept.
3. Activity Sheets with Answer Key
After you read the day’s book pages, your child completes the activity sheet. This helps your little one retain the information read that day. The activity sheets are colorful and age-appropriate. You can easily find them, along with an answer key, just behind that week’s lesson plan.
4. #Discoveranddo Experiment Book and Videos
This curriculum will make you want to do science experiments with your kids no matter if you’re a scientist at heart or science has you running for the hills. The colorful experiment book includes step-by-step instructions for each experiment. You’ll have the concepts studied, materials needed, directions, and your takeaway from each experiment right there on the pages for you.
If you’re still unsure about how to do the experiment, then you can also watch the step-by-step videos that you’ll have online access to as well. You and your child will both enjoy these fun videos before or after you do the experiments yourself.
5. Discover and Do Supply Kit
One of my favorite parts of this curriculum is the experiment supply kit. My kids love doing hands-on activities. But I always end up dreading them. Usually I forget to get the supplies together. We waste time running around trying to find everything we need.
I don’t have that problem now thanks to the Discover and Do Supply Kit. The kit includes all of the supplies I need for each experiment. Occasionally I might need to add something like food coloring from around the house. The supplies I need to grab are listed in the instructor’s guide and in the experiment book. Finally, hands-on activities we will actually get around to doing!
